Bear update: The Bear says We Bears Are Celebrating Tonight At The Hofbrauhaus Party. TR says, “General Bearus gave me my Magic Sword.” Moose say, “It looks like a key chain to me, Bear!” Lou says we will have a No Party. We will serve No Foods.
We woke up to sun. Will it last? It lasted, and the temperature in Fulda climbed to 17.1 C. On the weather channel at lunch today they said it’s finally summer all over Germany today. Isn’t that amazing! We wouldn’t have noticed.

We woke up at 7:30AM. We got dressed and went down to breakfast on the first floor at Mark’s Restaurant. We were surprised that the CP there was less impressive than anywhere else we’ve stayed in Germany. And here they were charging the ridiculous sum of 35 euros/person for the meal included in your room rate. Gary and Kenny loaded the car parked in the parking garage across the street. Fortunately we hadn’t had time last night to unload many bags. Still it took forever. We didn’t get out of room 203 on the 2nd floor until 11:00AM. Gary drove the car up to the main entrance to the hotel. We all leaped in and speeded away. Of course Gary didn’t know how to get out of Munich. Eventually he found A-9 back to Nuremberg. We were so late that our first pit stop was lunch at 11:37AM. We beat the lunch crowd. Surprise! We found Arizona iced tea of all things to drink with the spaghetti. We all paid for our lunches separately. That way we could take advantage of the Serways discount coupons that we get every time we pay70 cents to go to the bathroom at a full-service rest area. I saw a black doggie beside us and snapped his photo. We got back on the autobahn and continued to the second pit stop at Rasthof Koschinger Forst, which seemed to be a double rest area with two buldings side by side. The third pit stop was to get ice cream at Burger King. We had to wait in a long line right before reaching the Nuremberg area. The sundae machine was broken. We had small milkshakes. The next pit stop was at Steigerwald Nord to get water. Then we ran into a big stall back on the autobahn as I was counting money. We stopped for dinner at Rhon, but the food didn’t look very attractive so we moved on. We finally ate dinner at the Burger King at Uttrichshausen. We called the Best Western in Salzburg to get our money back for the 3rd day. They insist that we never canceled though we did. So we have to call Best Western International to complain. We moved on to Fulda. We didn’t like the steep stairs at the Holiday Inn. We ended up at the Hotel Lenz on the edge of town. We had drinks downstairs in the restaurant. The room has no A/C. We got separate rooms. I used Kenny’s shower.
$579.00 left in dollars minus coins in L’s purse. Gary has more in his money belt and wallet. Gary has $21.00 in 1’s. In his belt he has $485.00 = $1085.00 TOT
Gary also has 225 pounds sterling in his belt.
I’ve got 125 euros in 5’s. I’ve got 70 euros in 10’s minus the coins. Gary has 345 euros in his wallet minus coins. Kenny has 30 euros minus coins. Gary has 470 euros in 10’s in his belt = 1040 euros.
With the dollars and pounds sterling we have plenty of money for the ship, especially if we cancel the shore excursion as we intend to do. We’ve probably got enough money to make it until Wednesday in Germany if we don’t spend on anything except essentials. But right now we should pay for the black and red phones so they will be working upon arrival in NYC. We should also transfer money to an account that we can use for the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal and the Holiday Inn in Cherry Hill. Or maybe we should find an ATM for the Holiday Inn along the New Jersey Turnpike.
Germany seems to be engaged in drink rationing. Ever since we boarded the QM2 on July 6 we said good-bye to tall glasses of lemonade, orange juice, and ice tea and pretty much tall glasses of anything at all. At first we thought it was just the ship. We reasoned that at sea they had only so much room for supplies. But when we came ashore and found the same practices of small cups, miniature coffee and tea mugs, and even small bottles of “still water” at dinner, we really got curious. Maybe it’s not as hot here in Europe as in America, but the Europeans must get thirsty once in awhile. What goes?
Still no contract . . .
