Bear update: The Bear says We Must Hound Out The Pirate Party. TR says, “He must be sent packing.” Moose say, “You must be sent packing, Bear!” Lou says we will have a Packing Party. We will serve Beer In A Pack.
We woke up to sun. Will it last? No! It stormed late in the afternoon just as we were checking into the motel. The temperature in Harrisburg climbed to 90

We woke up at 7:30AM. We got dressed and had breakfast at the motel. This time we had the continental, which cost about half of what yesterday’s breakfast did. We packed up the car and checked out of room 115 at 9:41AM. We stopped to get gas at Citgo. It’s always full service in NJ. Then we found a Dunkin Donuts. We stopped in Mount Holly at the same Burger King where we were killing time two days ago waiting to check into the Holiday Inn. Gary got onto 130, a four-lane road ha wasn’t limited access. From there he drove to he entrance to the PA Turnpike, Actually you got to choose whether to go on the New Jersey Turnpike or the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Then we paid a toll of $3.00 to cross the Delaware River. We immediately stopped at a toll booth and picked up a ticket to proceed on the PA Turnpike. At that point it was 110 miles to Harrisburg. We saw a sign advertising the King of Prussia Plaza coming up in 24 miles. There is a lot of spaghetti. Gary says we’re going around Philadelphia to reach the northern suburbs. We crossed the Skulkill River. We stopped at the King of Prussia Service Plaza for lunch at 11:14AM. We beat the crowds. We left at 11:56AM after eating at Burger King and getting lots of postcards about Pennsylvania. I even saw Arizona Iced Tea for sale, so that’s promising. When we got back on the road there was construction. We found ourselves navigating between two concrete barriers, one on each side of the road with no shoulder. We stopped at the Peter J Camiel Service Plaza as a 4th pit stop. I gave Lou as bath for the first time since England until we made the 5th pit stop at exit 286 at Turkey Hill, a convenience store off the road. We had to pay $8.25 to get off the PA Turnpike to make a stop in Amish Country. At least this time it was fairly easy to get back on the road. Believe it or not, we found Magnum bars, the same as in Germany! We got back on the road and stopped at the Lawn Service Plaza. We looked at motels in Harrisburg. We got off the PA Turnpike and paid $3.20 for a toll. We then found our way to Eisenhower Blvd, the same place we stayed last time one month ago on Tuesday, July 3 when we checked into the La Quinta. But today we couldn’t find a hotel that was willing to check us in that had a room available on the ground floor. We tried Courtyard by Marriott, Holiday Inn, and La Quinta. We ended up at the Red Roof Inn after spending some time in McDonalds reacquainting ourselves with strawberry lemonade. We checked into room 106. At least it had an exterior corridor because the thunderstorm broke while we were unloading. We didn’t get everything inside in time. We went to dinner at Bob Evans and ordered the steak dinner special for $10.00/each with drinks extra. We called my parents while we were eating. Then we drove to the airport to pick up the Juniormobile after dinner. We discovered that we’d left the bathmat in the tub in the Holiday Inn at Cherry Hill. So far on this trip we’ve lost three rocks on the ship and a bathmat in Cherry Hill
The Bear claimed he was crossing the Delaware at the same place George Washington crossed, only TR was in pursuit of Pirates and not the British. He almost went to Valley Forge, too.
Book A Triple on QM2? Think Again! 8/5/12
We booked a triple cabin 4072 going to Hamburg on July 6. We booked another 8081 coming back to New York on July 25. The sofa pulled out into a third bed, a single. It was none too sturdy in either case and even less comfortable to sleep on. On the way back the sleeper sofa started to break. A piece of metal was coming loose in the closing mechanism. The last three mornings aboard QM2 coming back to NYC we had increasing difficulty converting the bed back into a sofa to sit on during the day. In addition we had to chase down a pillow to use with it. It was too small. My son’s feet hung over the edge. Also being right next to the balcony he was bothered by the ship’s lights even with drapes closed. The morning we docked in New York, Friday August 3, he was awakened by the lights on the Verrazano Bridge. He complained that he could hear traffic.
Dog/Cat Report:
Gary called Christine to make an appointment to pick up the pets Tuesday at 1:00PM. She says my mother would take Putlitz in an instant. Gary could hear Putlitz in the background making noises about birds.
Still no contract , . .
