Will Trump Survive His First Term?

I don’t think that there is any danger that Trump won’t survive his first term unless somebody shoots him. But as I said before it is useless to start an investigation that has anything to do with Russians still in Russia. You cannot fully investigate them. They won’t cooperate. And you can’t make them come here for questioning. This is only of the aspects of this scandal/rumor that makes it MOST like a TV series and not reality — the Russian involvement. You just know the scandal isn’t going anywhere when they say Russians are involved even if it seem to get bigger and the scandal gets blown out of all proportion. What to do? Somebody ought to film it and sell it. Should this be the subject of the next Cheops Books LLC thriller novel by Dora Benley?

Cheops Books Offers Lots Of Roman Novels:

Historical novels like just about everything else started in ancient Rome with the publication of a series of Greek Hellenistic novels of the romantic sort. So in tribute to the people of the Tiber River who gave us the column, the arch, St. Peters, the Colosseum, and the Roman Forum, Cheops Books has published a series of thrillers about ancient Rome.

One such novel is Julius Caesar: A Novel. In old age and in exile Servilia, mother of Marcus Brutus, awaited the suicide order from the Emperor Augustus, Caesar’s heir, who put to death all of Julius Caesar’s enemies. But instead he asked her to return to Rome and advise him as she once advised his predecessor, whose mistress she was. He wanted her to help raise the daughter of her old enemy Cleopatra, whom he brought back from Egypt after the death of the Serpent of the Nile: “Rome … that great maw of cites, the eater of men that ground and chewed up lives as if they were mere sandy grit between its teeth and then spat them out again. Through endless cycles of the seasons, revolutions, civil wars, and lives always the same. Did I have enough strength in this feeble body to war with her again? The child looked up at me. The answer was on my lips.”

See what you think of this historical thriller from the point of view of Servilia, Julius Caesar’s lifelong friend and mistress. She provides her own perspective on the colossus among men caught between the Republican faction of old Rome and those longing for empire.

Another such novel is Julius Caesar: A Novel. Julia has every reason to wish that she had not been born the daughter of a Roman senator during the Roman Civil Wars of Marius and Sulla. Her father, Rufus, is trying to escape the proscriptions lists and save his life by betrothing his only daughter in marriage to Marcus Sisenna. Marcus Sisenna is the right hand man of Marcus Sulla, one of the leading men of Rome of the day. Rufus needs his armies and the protection both Sulla and Sisenna can provide. But Julia does not want to marry a man who has already had five wives and who is just marrying her for her father’s money and estates. She does not want to be added to his collection of trophies. Julia wants personal happiness despite the time period into which she has been born. Her father thinks only of keeping his wealth and estates together. Her divorced mother is interested only in her own lovers. To whom shall Julia turn for assistance? The answer may surprise you. For it is obviously just the opposite of what the desperate Julia might expect.

Horus The Abyssinian In Julia: A Romance:

Of all the things to look forward to reading about in Julia: A Romance not the least is the episode about the Abyssinian cat named Horus. Marcus Sisenna’s daughters own a pet cat named Horus. Naturally he came from Egypt as did all the domestic cats of the day in ancient Rome. The cats were raised in Egyptian temples, and this was an offspring of one of those cats. Imports from Egypt in those days were considered “cool”.

I won’t say what happens but the girls have to find the cat after someone steals it. It is all part of the plot of the story. It is interesting that even nowadays we can find paintings of Roman cats of the day in Pompeiian wall paintings. We have attached one of these paintings to this blog post for your perusal.

Murder In Jasper Begins Five Day Promotion:

Murder in Jasper by Dora Benley begins its five day promotion today. The young adult thriller can be downloaded for free on Amazon Kindle. But hurry! A promotion this good will not be repeated any time this season.

Millicent is haunted by bizarre images of a spooky landscape that she has never seen before in her life. As soon as she closes her eyes at night she seems to be transported to a different world. Fissures and cracks open up in the earth. There is rumbling and groaning. The Earth speaks to her in different voices. Waters from all sides fill in the fissures and holes in the earth, boiling and bubbling up.

She wakes to the sound of “Who? Who? Who?” Owls perch in the trees outside her bedroom window in her house in Alberta, Canada in the town of Five Hundred Lakes. She looks a the portrait of her boyfriend, Andrew Stark, in the photo by her bed. He disappeared a year ago in a search and rescue mission in the Rocky Mountains.

Her cat brings her a package wrapped up in bows addressed to “My Can Do Girl.” She opens it up and finds a gold pin. It was the second anniversary of the day she met Andrew at a race and he helped her over the finish line and called her “My Can Do Girl”. She wonders how such a thing is possible.

Millicent looks out the window into the Rocky Mountain landscape and wonders if he is still out there somewhere. Is he perhaps calling to her from the dream world that she visits every night, the one with the dry, cracked earth and the bubbling waters? Is it a real place that she must find? Can she find the answer to what happened one year ago there? Millicent had better figure it all out very, very soon because there could also be someone or something lingering in the shadows that wants her as dead as Andrew.

If you enjoyed Murder in Jasper you will also like other titles by Dora Benley such as Rose Red, Mary’s Gone, Latin Lessons, Murder on Spirit Island, and Back to Venice.

Will Dora Benley Attend The RWA Conference In Denver?

Dora Benley plans to sign up for the RWA conference in Denver next month in February. But will she be able to attend? She would be coming either from Yellowstone or from Rome. But either way, it begins to appear dubious whether it will be possible in light of the Disney invasion of hotel rooms of its guests.

The RWA Conference will be held at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel. This is another mega high rise building, perfect for snipers a la Las Vegas. So if the Disney notion of handling things spreads and becomes popular, one will assume that the management of the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel will start to invade the rooms of its guests even during a conference.

Dora had planned to bring her RITA contest entry young adult thriller novel, Silver Wolf Moon. Silver Wolf Moon and Dora may have to go somewhere else instead. Should Dora stay longer in Yellowstone or Rome?

Darcy Devon can’t take it anymore. Her millionaire parents won’t stop bugging her to date Randolph King, the son of an English client of theirs. She runs away to live in her grandparents’ house in the wilds of Montana. But no sooner does she unpack her suitcase than she notices that somebody who looks like an uncouth madman is following her. Nobody knows who he is. When she goes swimming, somebody is watching her. When she goes to bed, somebody is outside looking in. Wolves howl at midnight. She looks up at the sky and sees a black moon and shivers. What does this strange dude want with her? Is he escaped from an asylum, or is it something else?

The young adult romantic thriller Silver Wolf Moon was originally published in German by Cora Verlag, Harper Collins Germany, as Silver Wolf. If you liked Silver Wolf Moon you will enjoy other young adult thrillers by Dora Benley such as Rose Red, Murder in Jasper, Mary’s Gone, Latin Lessons, and Dark 3: Special Edition.

Goodreads Giveaway Starts One Week From Today:

One week from today on Tuesday, January 9, Goodreads and Amazon roll out their new system for Goodreads Giveaway Promotions. Cheops Books LLC will be enrolling the Dora Benley historical thriller entitled Book of the Dead in the new Goodreads Giveaway Program. 100 copies of the Kindle edition of Book of the Dead will be given away. Don’t miss it. Tune in for more details later.

As soon as the King family settles in their new house in Cairo things begin to change rapidly. On Leona’s birthday her stepdaughter gives her an ancient scroll full of hieroglyphics. Her husband tells Leona it is a Book of the Dead, an ancient Egyptian text full of spells and magic chants to help the newly dead person gain admission into the afterlife, the Land of the Setting Sun. The scroll is to help him avoid getting eaten by the Devourer after his heart is weighed on the scales of truth against a feather and found wanting. Leona has no idea where Margaret got such a scroll. She remembers seeing her in the souk, taking something from a woman covered with dark veils from head to foot with only a claw-like hand protruding.

From that moment on Leona’s once perfect world closes in on her. She finds herself kidnapped, locked in a tomb, nearly driven mad, and tormented by an Egyptian spirit who has somehow been loosed on her. She must fight for her very life in this supernatural novel about Egyptian archaeology in the 1920’s.

If you enjoyed Book of the Dead by Dora Benley you will enjoy her other historical thrillers about the ancient world and Egypt such as Doom of Egypt, Curse of the Pharaoh, Murder at the Sphinx, Curse of Egypt, and Cleopatra’s Stone.

Medea The Witch On Promotion On Amazon:

The five day promotion for Medea The Witch begins today, January 1, New Year’s Day, and continues through Friday, January 5. But hurry! You will not want to miss this chance to download the historical thriller about ancient Greece by Dora Benley. This offer won’t be repeated this year.

Medea the Witch is the story of Jason and Medea told from the point of view of Medea. This is not the more familiar tale of Jason’s voyage to Colchis in which the latter encounters Harpies and monsters at every turn (i.e., the material of the 1950’s movie Jason and the Argonauts), but rather it is the tale of the clash of two very different cultures. Medea comes from the fading world of Goddess worshipers with a long matriarchal tradition. She is suddenly thrust into Jason’s Greek world of the followers of the Sky God Zeus where women are best left behind veils. No one understands her “magic” and she is called a “witch.” She is left to defend herself as best she can. The death of her tradition combines with the havoc wreaked by the Thera volcanic eruption at the end of the Bronze Age to presage the end of her world.

If you liked Medea the Witch, you will like other tales by Dora Benley including Minotaur, Helen of Troy, Book of the Dead, Jason and Medea, and Caesar and Cleopatra: A Novel.

TNT Fireworks Next Door To Cheops Books LLC:

Not only does Cheops Books LLC feel threatened when on the road again by none other than Disney, more close to home right at New Year’s it feels threatened by fireworks. We were just at the grocery store just down the hill called Safeway. Next to the checkout counter there are piles and piles of explosives. They are labeled TNT explosives and fireworks. There are signs that say NO SMOKING, and we have seen people vaping in the store. The management is ambiguous about that. The man in line in front of us at the checkout yesterday was buying fireworks. We were going to ask him if he was really going to use them considering how dangerous they were.

On New Year’s Eve the fireworks frequently land in our backyard. You can see them coming. You feel as if you are under attack by some unknown, dangerous enemy. And this in the very building that Cheops Books LLC calls home.

We hope the fireworks don’t ignite an explosion one of these days. We hope it does not burn our books. This past autumn we published the Dark Series: Dark 1, Dark 2, and Dark 3: Special Edition as well as Dark: A Trilogy. We are planning next year to publish Paris Peace Plot, Armistice Plot, Hitler’s Chief Spy, and Old Faithful Plot among other titles. We can only cross our fingers on New Year’s Eve and hope that they do not go up in smoke first.
