Facebook’s Hate Speech Witch Hunt:

Facebook has accused me of “hate speech” for declaring that I do not believe in affirmative action just like Justice Clarence Thomas who is himself a black. But I am in good company.

I have also read that Facebook has censored Elizabeth Heng, a Cambodian American candidate for the US House of Representatives from California. She tried to place an ad about the ethnic cleansing going on in Cambodia in the early 80s when her parents fled to America. Facebook said it was in poor taste and too violent.

Alex Jones, the conspiracy theorist on the internet and the conservative radio talk show host, has also been censored by Facebook and removed from the website. He has been accused of hate speech and glorifying violence.

The ultimate: Facebook has also removed Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence as “hate speech”. How about that? One of the chief political documents of America doesn’t meet Facebook’s policies. “Merciless Indian savages” was the phrase that fell afoul of the censors. Back at the time of Jefferson and Lewis and Clark Indians did seem like “merciless savages”. But that is history, something Facebook doesn’t know anything about.

Venetian Thrillers Abound On Our Website:

Venice is one of our favorite settings for thrillers. It is exotic and different from anywhere else on the planet. It sure beats the suburban mall as a setting for the next mystery.

In Hitler’s Chief Spy Dora and Edward flee Hitler to Italy only to have Hitler’s friend, Mussolini, come after them. They must escape one of his speeches in the square in Venice and sail to Paris.
In Armistice Plot Herr von Wessel is Hitler’s chief supporter. Edward is trying to trace their correspondence to discover their plans and plots. He must go to von Wessel’s headquarters in Venice to uncover certain papers. Instead he meets Helga von Wessel staring down at him from a painting on the wall.

In the young adult supernatural novel Back to Venice, eighteen year old Alexandra Banks yawns and stretches as she asks her chauffeur where they are. Charles says the Coronado Bay Resort in San Diego. Alexandra thinks it looks like Venice with all the canals, gondolas, and gondoliers in Italian Renaissance and medieval costumes. They were there just last week with her high roller parents. Charles tells her it is California make believe like Disneyland. He points out at sign that advertises gondola rides on the Coronado Cays. But Alexandra isn’t sure when the costumed gondoliers begin to stare at her.

She knows something very strange is going on when she takes a ride in a gondola and steps out into what is obviously Venice. But it is not the Venice of today but of hundreds of years ago. Passers by gawk at her. They are suspicious of her twenty-first century clothes and her cell phone. She is quickly arrested and put on trial for her life as a witch. How did Alexandra get into such a fix to begin with? What is going on? How does she escape? She had better figure it out soon or she may never emerge from the nightmarish Middle Ages and get back to her real life again.

Three Years Ago Today: Lincoln Highway

Three years ago today Cheops Books LLC was embarked on a grand adventure: a trip to the Old World. It was a 110 day trip with postings every day. We began the day in New Stanton. We drove the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Breezewood. We encountered an exhibition on the history of the Turnpike at the rest stop at Midway.

This was all very relevant to the Edward Ware Thrillers Series. Dora, a native of Pittsburgh, drove this way many times in the days when she was following the Lincoln Highway through the mountains of Pennsylvania. The Lincoln Highway is featured in the upcoming alternative history thriller, Old Faithful Plot.

The Lincoln Highway was centered in Pennsylvania. But it followed a route all the way to California. Dora and Edward followed it to the junction where they exited to Yellowstone National Park. You can read what happens next in Old Faithful Plot on June 16.

Edward Ware Thrillers at War Series: Two More Thrillers:

Pliny: A Novel and Dark Horse are two more historical thrillers published by Cheops Books LLC. Pliny: A Novel by Dora Benley and Dark Horse by the Cargills concern two very different time periods but are both part of the Edward Ware Thrillers at War Series.

Pliny: A Novel explores who was Pliny the Elder?

Pliny the Elder, or Gaius Plinius Secundus, was an ancient Roman scientist, essayist, and thinker, probably the greatest mind of the first century AD. He had an office right next door to what later became the Porta Nigra in Trier.

What was he doing there, hundreds of miles away from his home in Rome? Trier was the oldest Roman city in Germany. He had been appointed Governor of the Province of Germany probably by the Emperor Vespasian and his son, the Emperor Titus. No doubt he studied the birds there as well as the flora and fauna since he was the first to write an encyclopedia called the Natural History, which was influential for centuries.

He was carrying on business as usual here early in the summer of 79AD before packing his bags and returning home for a summer at the seaside south of Rome at one of his villas near the Vesuvius Volcano which unknown to any mortal that summer was about to erupt.

According to legend that is how Pliny died. He was leading an expedition to save those too near the volcano when the volcano sent a rain of ash down upon him. Italian archaeologist now think they may have discovered his remains in a ship in the Bay of Naples near the volcano. See article on the website.

But the novel offers a different explanation for his mysterious disappearance. He was being pursued by German warriors for writing a derisive work about their peoples and culture called the Germania.
But did he escape or not? Pliny: A Novel may present surprising answers. It is the latest book in the Edward Ware Thrillers at War Series.

In Dark Horse what would happen if Hitler won the Battle of Dunkirk? Colonel Sir Edward Ware is about to find out when Rommel pushes him off the French beach with all his troops and then beats him to Britain in 1940. The chase ends up in Coronado, California, land of palm trees, the rich and famous — and swastikas!

It’s all ahead of the Republican Convention of 1940 in Philadelphia where a dark horse candidate is being selected with major international complications and plenty of Nazi involvement in this alternative history thriller.

Dark Horse is book five of the Edward Ware Thrillers At War Series.
