Caesar and Cleopatra: A Novel: Special Promotion
This historical thriller by Dora Benley opens with Queen Cleopatra in exile roaming about the Sahara Desert with her serving women trying to survive. She is at war with her brother, King Ptolemy. Suddenly the famous Roman general, Julius Caesar, arrives in town and summons Cleopatra to Alexandria. The well educated, clever Cleopatra wants to make the best of a dangerous mission where she risks arrest and execution by her brother’s guards. She wants to make sure that the Great Man from Rome, Julius Caesar, Conqueror of half the world, is on her side before her brother Ptolemy can grab his ear.
The seventeen year old teenager concocts a scheme that will awaken Caesar’s sensibilities and appeal to him directly for his protection. She orders one of her servants to spirit her into Alexandria wrapped in a carpet. She is put down on the floor before Caesar.
“Very well, Queen Cleopatra, you can come out now,” Caesar commands.
With a spring of the wrist, Caesar unrolls the carpets. She finds herself sitting on the floor gazing up into the blue-gray eyes of the Roman conqueror. Cleopatra imagined he would be a colossus with giant sinews and great stature like Hercules. But he is a tall man on the thinnish side with a balding head and goiter in late middle age with a perfectly proportioned bone structure and an aristocratic, firm mouth.
So begins the adventure of Caesar and Cleopatra.

Have you ever seen a mud puddle boil? Yes, that’s right, boil and bubble and make a plopping noise? If you say no and think we are insane to ask, you have obviously never visited Yellowstone National Park. Dora Benley, at this point Mrs. Byrne, has never been to Yellowstone either. She is astounded to peer out the window of their car and see boiling mud. When she reaches for her map she finds out that this sort of thing is common in the volcanic caldera that is Yellowstone National Park.
Cheops Books LLC could not resist including a segment with boiling mud pots in the book trailer for this upcoming Edward Ware Thrillers at War novel, Old Faithful Plot. You will be able to hear real Yellowstone mud pots bubble and burst in a perverse, even spooky sort of way. But what else would you expect when the volcanic part of Yellowstone is central to the plot of this thriller novel? You are supposed to think how Yellowstone is a giant volcano that is not extinct and could explode with devastating consequences at any time. That is certainly what Adolf Hitler is thinking throughout the book. And you, the reader, will find out why.

Key to Lawrence Special Edition: Audio Book Coming Soon:
Water rushed into the four, great smoke stacks of the ship as they, too, hit the waves. Tremendous, churning whirlpools sucked victims inside. A few were ejected, blackened with soot. Propellers rose above the maelstrom. The rudder lifted higher than the smoke stacks. The ship’s prow pointed down toward the deep. It looked as if the ship’s nose would hit the sea bed hundreds of feet below. The Lusitania sank in only 18 minutes after being torpedoed on May 7, 1915. Dora Benley vowed revenge on the enemy. Key to Lawrence tracks the beginning of her quest for justice in this special edition of the first volume of the Edward Ware Thrillers At War Series. It commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Great War.
You might have already read Key to Lawrence: Special Edition. Now you get to hear it, too. Cheops Books LLC is about to release a new audio edition of the historical thriller novel, book one of Edward Ware Thrillers at War. It will be available on Amazon and Audible soon.
If you liked the first volume of the series you might want to try book two, Salisbury Plot, just published and also available on Kindle. The series progresses to the 1930’s with more ominous political developments, particularly the coming to power of Adolf Hitler. Dora Benley, now Lady Ware, confronts her foe, Hitler’s chiefest spy. Salisbury Plot will soon have its own audio edition.
Lucius Antonius: Ancestor of Colonel Sir Edward Ware
Lucius Antonius was the original ancestor of Colonel Sir Edward Ware in the Edward Ware Thrillers at War Series. Born in ancient Rome in the first century B.C. he was an officer under Julius Caesar during the Alexandrian Campaign in Egypt in 47 and 48 B.C. After the war was over he married one of Cleopatra’s surviving serving women. When his commanding officer Julius Caesar was assassinated in the Roman Forum in 44 B.C., Lucius Antonius and his new bride fled to Britannia, the Roman colony in England. That was to be the home base of the Antonius family from that point on. Two later heroes of Edward Ware Thrillers at War novels came from his line and from Britannia: Caelius Antonius and Caius Antonius. These were the heroes of the Cherusci Plot and the Vesuvius Plot respectively. They were to gain fame fighting the Germanic tribes in the first century AD.
Cleopatra’s Stone from the point of view of Lucius Antoniuis has just been published by Cheops Books LLC.
Cleopatra’s Stone will be on special promotion on Amazon Kindle starting on Tuesday, June 13. Download it for free during the five days the promotion continues. But hurry! An offer like this won’t be repeated this year.
Lucius Antonius has sailed to Alexandria, Egypt along with Julius Caesar’s triumphant legions in pursuit of Pompey the Great. Caesar may be able to clap Ptolemy, the boy king, in irons. But his sister, Cleopatra, is another story. Just returned from hiding out in the Arabian Desert, she has chiseled a black stone of unknown age from a sacred monument because the bauble appeals to her. Assassins are on the loose to get revenge for the desecration. What will Cleopatra do to protect herself? The Serpent of the Nile is full of wiles — deadly ones for Caesar in this historical thriller novel, Cleopatra’s Stone, by Dora Benley.
Cleopatra’s Stone is brought to you by Edward Ware Thrillers At War, an imprint of Cheops Books, LLC. The novels tell the story of Edward Ware’s family from ancient times in ancient Rome to the present day, always involved in war and conflict and with the British Isles and eventually America as a home base. If you liked this novel try other Edward Ware Thrillers At War novels in the same series by Dora Benley such as Dark 3: Special Edition and Salisbury Plot.
Rommel: The General’s Namesake:
Here we have Rommel the black Labrador Retriever, pure bred and descended of a noble stock. He is pictured crooning to his favorite songs in the backseat of our minivan here at Cheops Books LLC. He was named after the famous World War 2 German general of the same name. Erwin Rommel figures in several of our historical thriller novels such as Captive at the Berghof parts 1 and 2 and in Hitler’s Agent and Helga’s Reich. He is the great antagonist of General Lord Edward Ware in North Africa in 1942, particularly at the Battle of El Alamein. General Rommel wants the Lawrence maps, key to world domination, to learn how to avoid the soft sands in the Sahara Desert in order to take Cairo and Alexandria and push the British out of Mid-East Headquarters and out of Africa itself. We here at Cheops Books LLC thought Rommel was a fitting name for a pugnacious dog who loves to dart about. When running he moves with the speed of a charging tank. Very appropriate indeed.
Hitler’s Agent: New Book Trailer to Premier Soon:
The book trailer for Hitler’s Agent will premier soon on the Cheops Books LLC website: http://www.edwardwarethrillers.org. So keep on checking back, and you will be able to click on it. It should be ready by the time the Edward Ware Thrillers Newsletter comes out in June.
The villainess, Helga von Wessel, Hitler’s chief spy, struts boldly from page to page of this thriller with Europe at her back and all sorts of ambitious notions in her head during the lead up to WW2. As far as she is concerned it isn’t Hitler’s Reich. It is Helga’s Reich. She will wrap the hero, Colonel Sir Edward Ware, Churchill’s spy, around her little finger to prove it. Nor does it matter what Edward’s American wife, Dora, says. Hitler’s Agent is the fifth volume of the Edward Ware Thrillers at War Series. It will be published by Cheops Books LLC on October 15.
Dora And Edward Should Book A Mediterranean Cruise in 2018:
One year from today on Friday, June 8, 2018 the Queen Victoria sets out on a 14-night Mediterranean cruise that should interest Dora and Edward Ware with all their connections all over Europe. What is better the cruise embarks in Southampton and returns them to Southampton at the end of the cruise so they can easily drive right back to Ware Hall in the south of England or they can drive into London and take up residence at the Savoy at their apartment. The following ports of call are on the itinerary of Mediterranean Highlights: Oporto, Barcelona, Port Mahon, Ajaccio, Citavecchia, Cagliari, and Gibraltar.
Ajaccio should interest them. That is the place on the island of Corsica where Napoleon was born. There is a statue of the Emperor there as well as a house that was in the Bonaparte family until the 1920s. Edward’s great-grandfather served under Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo in the upcoming Cheops Books LLC historical thriller, Inn at the Crossroads.
Citavecchia is the port of Rome. Edward has a big chase scene through all sorts of Italian formal gardens in the historical thriller, Map Plot. He could take a shore excursion to Hadrian’s Villa or the Villa de Este with all its waterfalls.
And finally Gibraltar would always be of interest. In the historical thriller soon to be published by Cheops Books LLC, Hitler’s Agent, Dora and Edward pay a visit to the island of Gibraltar to refuel their yacht. They need to get back to Paris to meet with Winston Churchill at the Ritz Hotel. Dora enlists some local apes to help escape from Hitler and his agents.
