Dark 2 and Point Horror Halloween:

Dark 2 was still another Scholastic Point Horror young adult thriller published in their line as a Point Horror Halloween special. It is now brought to you in time for Halloween by Cheops Books LLC.

In Dark 2 Bianca Winters thinks she has lost the love of her life, Doc Ernie McCollough. He used to be her medical advisor when she was recovering from the shock of witnessing a murder. Now she must try to cope all by herself while serving as the live-in nanny/permanent babysitter for St. Simons Island’s little heiress, Little Katie Shipley.

Suddenly there is a new man in town, Byron Kingsley, fresh from England. He begins to serve as her new medical advisor while she tries to recover her memory after the shock of the killing two years before while she was babysitting her charge. And he shows up just in time as the Island’s infamous criminal, Mike Fellini, tries to kidnap Little Katie and hold her for ransom.

But just as Bianca, Byron, Little Katie, and entourage are ready to flee to safety in England, a controversy breaks wide open about Byron Kingsley. Mysteries are associated with her new love as they lead to the horrendous, spine tingling conclusion to Dora Benley’s new young adult thriller.

If you liked Dark 2, you will enjoy other young adult thrillers by Dora Benley including Dark 3: Special Edition, Dark: A Trilogy, and Dark 1. You will also like Pool Party and The Surfer by Linda Cargill

Teens rarely need an excuse to stay up late, but The Dark by Dora Benley would give pause for thought to even the most steely-nerved youngster. A genuinely gripping horror story. Approach with caution.

California Wine Country: Setting for Dark 3:

Yes, I too had the impression that California fires could somehow occur only in Southern California, not Northern or Central California, though about a month or so ago I think there was a fire in Yosemite too in the Sierra Nevada Mountains along with evacuations. It seems like the only safe part of California is the non-populated area along the Pacific NW Coast, the Redwood Coast around Garberville, Crescent City, Eureka, and Brookings, Oregon. They get plenty of rain there.

In our case we keep on rooting for the Sandman Motel in Santa Rosa, California. That was where we stayed on the way back from Brookings, Oregon. It is the motel I use in my novel from the Edward Ware Thriller Series Dark 3: Special Edition by Dora Benley. It was an interesting place with nice gardens and artwork, especially outdoor statues. Hotels across the intersection have been burned to the ground.

It is hard to believe that you wouldn’t remember the Wine Country if you drove through it. We didn’t know we were going to drive through it to the Pacific NW Coast. But it was the nicest unplanned “find” of our trip in 2007. Two years ago we were driving around the Wine Country in Germany along the banks of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers where vines have grown since Roman times. The California Wine Country has a completely different look. For one thing there are no Rhine and Moselle Rivers. There are no villages and towns like those that dot the banks of the Rhine in Germany. Instead the California Wine Country has a more fantasy look with fake European castles and lots of French restaurants, that sort of upscale kind of thing. I will try to dig out some photos to post for you.

Cheops Books And The Mystery Genre:

What occurs to me about mysteries and style is that the mystery genre could not have evolved at all if it were not for the development of the third person limited point of view. Think about it. If all you had for a point of view was omniscient or the omniscient narrator (all-knowing) it would be impossible to have a mystery and the mystery genre. The narrator would be like God. He would always know who did it. All this happened in the 19th century, so mysteries are a newer kind of fiction unlike romances which go back to ancient times and the Hellenistic period.

Cheops Books LLC issues almost all of its books in the mystery genre and all of them use the third person limited. This autumn our entire line up consists of mysteries and thrillers. On September 15 we published Dark 3: Special Edition, the third book in the Dark Series. On October 15 we will publish Hitler’s Agent, book 6 of the Edward Ware Thrillers at War Series. On November 1 we are scheduled to publish Dark 1. On November 8 we are scheduled to publish Dark 2. And finally on November 15 we are to publish Dark: A Trilogy, a collection that includes the text of all the Dark novels including Dark 1, Dark 2, and Dark 3. It features a special cover designed by Andrew. On December 15 Cheops Books LLC will publish Captive at the Berghof: Part 1 in German, the first issue in a foreign language. This novel is also making a trip to the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany this autumn.

I don’t like poetry either for the most part. That is no doubt why I never wrote it. That is probably why I write novels. It is probably why you write novels, too. I just thought of something neat. You will think it is neat, too. The passage I sent you yesterday has a new meaning based on terrorist attack on London Bridge this year in England. Think of a newspaper reporter talking about the attack on tourists on London Bridge and quoting these lines from T.S. Eliot: “A crowd flowed over London Bridge, so many, I had not thought death had undone so many . . . ” T.S. Eliot must have had a premonition about the future.

By the way this same T.S. Eliot also wrote poetry for children a little bit later on. He showed that he had the ability to entertain people by writing Possum’s Book of Practical Cats about pussycats. For instance there is Macavity the Mystery Cat who is called the “hidden paw” and who has the ability to be the “Master criminal who can defy the law”. Apparently this book of verse for children was also the inspiration for Cats: A Musical. It must have been T.S. Eliot’s more pop or American side. After all he was an American who was born in America and moved to Britain to become a British citizen.

Cheops Books LLC publishes only novels, not poetry. This autumn it will publish Dark 3: Special Edition on September 15, Edward Ware Thrillers at War novel Hitler’s Agent on October 15, Dark 1 on November 1, Dark 2 on November 8, Dark: A Trilogy on November 15, and Captive at the Berghof part 1 in the German language on December 15. The publication of Old Faithful Plot, an Edward Ware Thrillers at War novel, will soon be announced. None of the novels contain any poetry.
