Thrillers In Several Volumes:

Captive at the Berghof comes in two volumes. The young adult series, The Dark, comes in three volumes collected into a trilogy. The more volumes the more fun!

In Captive at the Berghof: Part 1 Hitler has found out about Colonel Sir Edward Ware’s secret undercover activities for Winston Churchill, and he’s playing hardball. He kidnaps Thomasina, Edward’s daughter, and won’t give the child back unless Edward and his wife, Dora, hand over the key to world domination – the Lawrence maps. They’d better do something fast before Thomasina truly becomes Hitler’s daughter.

In Captive at the Berghof: Part 2 attempts to destroy their marriage have failed. Dora and Edward Ware  join forces for the final onslaught against Hitler. They must regain possession of their kidnapped daughter who is being brainwashed by the Nazi Dictator.

They must also keep the Lawrence map of the Western Desert away from Hitler’s greedy hands. With that he could take the Middle East and thus win the war through his general in the Sahara Desert – Rommel.

In Dark 1 and 2 teenager Bianca Winters had no idea what was in store for her in the next few years when she took on a babysitting assignment across the street with Little Katie Shipley. That night her whole life was to change forever as a killer roamed around in the dark upstairs. She had to save the baby while the housekeeper, Mrs. Ingersoll, fell to her death.

In the months that followed the murder, Bianca comes under the wing of her new medical advisor, Doc, who helps her recover from the horrible experience. She falls in love with the young man only to have doubt cast on his motives by circumstances that hint that he himself is the killer. When he goes on the run, she has to still believe in him somehow. How could she love a murderer?

In Dark 3: Special Edition Katie Shipley’s parents move to California and take Bianca with them as her live in babysitter. Bianca thinks that Doc is dead, killed trying to escape from the authorities.

But then just as a strange gentleman from England appears and tries to kidnap Little Katie, a young man who reminds her of the one she has lost materializes in her life again. He shows her what has really been going on all these years behind the scenes, why Mrs. Ingersoll was killed, and what the bad guys want with Little Katie.

The trilogy ends with the biggest surprise ending of all time.

Blue Heron Mystery Has A Brand New Cover:

Blue Heron Mystery has a brand new cover. It is quite moody and suggestive with a beach chair pointed out to sea but clearly empty of all occupants. What happened to the girl who was sitting there only moments before? That is the business of Blue Heron Mystery to suggest what might have happened almost before your very eyes in the blink of an eyelash.

Melissa’s parents have moved to Hilton Head Island to pursue their real estate dreams in her senior year in high school. Her social life crashes. Her old boyfriend runs off with the class flirt, leaving her with no one. She is having trouble making friends in her new high school. Even worse, her parents keep wanting her to babysit her new baby sister, Nancy, and that makes her even more of a social outcast

When Melissa thinks she has reached her peak of being out of it, things take a radical turn for the worse. She is walking on the beach after she has a blow up with her mother about taking care of Nancy. First she stumbles into a huge blue heron who scares her to death. Then she stumbles into a dead body of a girl in a beach chair looking out to sea. The police show up. They think she did it. Is somebody trying to frame her? What does Melissa do next? She had better figure it out soon before she ends up in jail for life.

If you liked Blue Heron Mystery you will enjoy other young adult thrillers by Dora Benley such as Mary’s Gone, Latin Lessons, Rose Red, Murder on Spirit Island, Murder in Jasper, Silver Wolf Moon, Back to Venice, Murder On Hollywood Beach, and Ophelia Plot.

Blue Heron Mystery starts the evolution of a theme in Dora Benley’s novels that becomes even bigger in other series —- kidnapping little girls. The kidnapping of Nancy in this thriller develops into the kidnapping of Little Katie in the Dark Series and ends up as the kidnapping of Thomasina Edwina Ware in the Edward Ware Thrillers at War Series.

TNT Fireworks Next Door To Cheops Books LLC:

Not only does Cheops Books LLC feel threatened when on the road again by none other than Disney, more close to home right at New Year’s it feels threatened by fireworks. We were just at the grocery store just down the hill called Safeway. Next to the checkout counter there are piles and piles of explosives. They are labeled TNT explosives and fireworks. There are signs that say NO SMOKING, and we have seen people vaping in the store. The management is ambiguous about that. The man in line in front of us at the checkout yesterday was buying fireworks. We were going to ask him if he was really going to use them considering how dangerous they were.

On New Year’s Eve the fireworks frequently land in our backyard. You can see them coming. You feel as if you are under attack by some unknown, dangerous enemy. And this in the very building that Cheops Books LLC calls home.

We hope the fireworks don’t ignite an explosion one of these days. We hope it does not burn our books. This past autumn we published the Dark Series: Dark 1, Dark 2, and Dark 3: Special Edition as well as Dark: A Trilogy. We are planning next year to publish Paris Peace Plot, Armistice Plot, Hitler’s Chief Spy, and Old Faithful Plot among other titles. We can only cross our fingers on New Year’s Eve and hope that they do not go up in smoke first.

Dark Series Belongs To A Vanished Era:

Cheops Books LLC has been publishing and republishing books from a vanished era, a vanished genre, of books this autumn, the Dark Series. It is hardly like resurrecting Pompeii as Cheops Books LLC will do when it published Pliny: A Novel. But still Dark 1 and Dark 2 were written as a two-volume series of books in the Scholastic UK Point Horror Series and were first published some years ago. The Point Horror Series no longer exists and his been replaced by all sorts of fantasy derivatives instead and the perpetually popular romance derivatives.

But some people like to collect old books the way they collect old wines. Their flavor deepens over time. Just as somebody might collect and watch old Hitchcock movies which are certainly no longer produced anymore, he might want to settle down with a Point Horror novel and remember the way things used to be when readers relished an honest scare or sudden fright falling out of a well-placed closet.

In just a few more days Cheops Books will publish Dark: A Trilogy collecting all three books in the Dark Series in one place. In the same line of books Cheops Books has already published The Surfer and Pool Party, Point Horror USA titles, by Linda Cargill.

The Mystery: Point Of View in Cheops Books LLC:

A first person mystery such as “I dreamed I went back to Manderley” in Rebecca, yes, you can certainly have it. But most mysteries and almost all thrillers are third person limited nowadays. If your heroine is called Jan Friedman, everything in the story is what Jane knows and nothing can be admitted that she wouldn’t know. This is the “limited” part.

If you have just third person you have Charles Dickens and writers like that. And of course when it suited Dickens he would break into omniscient and tell you all about his characters, too. Moralize. Stuff like that which contemporary readers wouldn’t like.

All of the Edward Ware Thrillers at War Series and all the Edward Ware Thrillers YA novels are third person limited with a handful of first person stories thrown in for good measure. The Dark Series by Dora Benley coming out this autumn is all third person limited. So are Hitler’s Agent and Captive at the Berghof: Part 1 coming out on October 15 and on December 15 respectively. Try them out. You will see what we mean.
