What If Trump Were Prime Minister of Great Britain:
What I don’t understand is how May keeps on holding onto power and why she is still PM. Why don’t they hold a vote of confidence?
It might make a movie to have Trump as Prime Minister instead of May. But could you actually have an American running Great Britain? I know Churchill was half American but this would be all American. And Trump is very blunt. He says what he thinks. He has no manners.
Maybe SOME people in Britain would like this but many people wouldn’t like it. He might even be blunt with the Queen. I assume the Queen could deal with Trump, but most people in Parliament would not like somebody who had such an executive approach to leadership.
AND HE DIDN’T GO TO OXFORD OR CAMBRIDGE!!! Also how would it go over to have a PM who was a billionaire? Also being American he would just ASSUME that Scotland and Northern Ireland, etc including Wales wanted to be part of Great Britain. And he would go for a very hard Brexit indeed. He probably wouldn’t want to negotiate with the EU at all UNLESS THEY CAME TO HIM, and he wouldn’t blink first.
Do PM’s have political rallies? He would want to go around the country on speaking tours all the time?
Also do you mean Trump as PM without being the President of the US at the same time? If he were President Britain would be the 51st state? Another interesting movie, no doubt. You would have to get rid of the Queen and get a Constitution fast. No EU then.

Trump Acts On Roman Scale Against Syria:
It would be totally impractical to consult Parliament or Congress about the Syria strikes. First of all they have to be secret. They can’t be discussed in a public session of Congress or Parliament. In order to keep up with the US, England gave the PM the power to make strikes without consulting Parliament. The US President has evolved this power since WW2 even though if he wanted to start a formal war he would have to get Congress to agree the way Bush did.
Cameron consulted Parliament in 2013, and they voted it down, making Britain “look like a jerk.” The previous occupant at the White House added to the jerk quality of the lack of response by claiming he was going to consult Congress. That is why May did not do it this time and Trump certainly did not. Democracies are not good at making war. Think of the Roman Republic. During the Punic Wars, at first the consuls who were elected for one year each and were not doing well fighting Carthage. They didn’t have enough power to carry on the wars. They had to learn to appoint a Dictator for the duration of the war or they might lose. Finally they appointed Fabius Maximus. Even he did not stay dictator for very long. Cato the Elder during the Third Punic War had the power of being a Dictator without the title because of his speaking ability.
Finally the Romans got the idea in the first century BC and Sulla became Dictator when fighting the Athenians. This resulted in Julius Caesar crossing the Rubicon and riding into Rome with his troops, not laying down his power at all. And finally Augustus became Princeps or first citizen of Rome, really the First Emperor. Battles required a chain of command and real authority.
Before the Romans the Greeks had a terrible time conducting military campaigns. Athens wasn’t a modern democracy. It was more like a democratic oligarchy. But it was disorganized, and their wars and battles often suffered from lack of real leadership. It is ironic that the greatest Greek general was Alexander the Great of Macedon who was a King.
During World War 2 Britain followed this Roman tradition and suspended elections for the duration of the war. Churchill was like a Roman dictator more than the US President was who had to stand for election no matter what. Churchill was the most successful British PM of the twentieth century.
No one would suggest that the common foot soldiers get to vote on the next strike in the war. So why should the populace of the country get to vote on the next moves? That is the same sort of nonsense.
Churchill is a major character in the Edward Ware Thrillers at War Series. He appears in many different novels.

What To Do About The Bad Russians?
Amazing show of solidarity organized by May and the British — throwing out all those Russian diplomats and Russians who are also spies all over the world in lots of different countries. It looks good on the news. But I wish they could do something of more lasting substance. Owning 20% of a Russian state monopoly can’t do much besides help support the bad guy Russian government. Gazprom and Gazpromneft are gas and oil companies that produce the money for the state to operate on. They would never let Britain decide anything. Maybe Europe should close down all gas stations operated by Russians.
Cheops Books LLC concerns itself with troublesome Russians in the upcoming thriller Unlocking Trinity, an Edward Ware Thrillers at War novel.
The Ware’s little girl has been kidnapped by Hitler and forced to live with him at the Berghof. But when Hitler commits suicide in his Berlin Bunker on April 30, 1945, what happens to the child who has been indoctrinated as a Nazi, who has forgotten that English is her native language?
Her biological father, General Lord Edward Ware, must defy Eisenhower’s order to leave Berlin to the Russians. He must get to her before Stalin’s henchwoman does. It becomes a race to Trinity in the wilds of New Mexico in the birth trauma of the Cold War.

A Peter The Great Move Needed:
Yes, supposedly Trump is now expelling Russian diplomats from the US. Although it is “showy” and captures news headlines, how is it going to harm Moscow or change Moscow? Even if they broke off diplomatic relations, what is it going to accomplish? Maybe it is like snubbing Moscow, but Moscow is accustomed to being snubbed. They have closed down the consulate in Seattle. The Russians are closing consulates. This is not going to change anything.
We need a Peter the Great move. He went to Amsterdam and studied the Dutch. He learned to build canals in St. Petersburg. The Americans, British, French, Germans, etc should declare they are going to build more canal boats in St. Petersburg — anything like this would cause more change than all the diplomats could you possibly shift around. In an ideal world Trump should declare that he is going to build an air base in Siberia or even build roads in Russia. And if Putin were going to become like Peter the Great he would connect himself with such a move.

If I Were May Or Trump:
If I were May I would not stop making a point to the Russians until the point is actually made. You cannot have Russia attacking England with chemical weapons and endangering innocent civilians in peace time. If you accept that sort of thing and don’t make a point of it, who knows what the Russians will try next.
If I were in charge of the US which I am not, I would announce that the Russians were teaming up with the US to fight dissident elements in other countries around Russia. For instance there are lots of “stans”. I would say we had decided to build an American air force base in Siberia and thus a British air force base, too. I wonder what the Russians would really do. Would Putin try to stop us? Would he attack? Actually I doubt it. I think he would pretend to go along with it because he had no choice.
Also in Russia this would make him immensely popular. There is nothing the common everyday Russians would like better than Americans and British people bringing money and jobs. America in particular is NOT on Russia’s traditional enemy list. If Putin carried it off, he might become as famous as Peter the Great in Russian history who was the most western leaning czar. But sadly the US isn’t that interested in Russia to help prop it up like this.
Cheops Books LLC will soon publish Unlocking Trinity, the Edward Ware Thrillers novel about Russia.

Crackdown On The Russians:
I am forwarding an article from National Review that Gary read to me last night about the Russians. This says that Cameron when he was PM was trying to get rid of anonymous real estate investments by Russians in London. Then he resigned. The article claims that May has not continued in this direction. The article insists this is why you have so many vacant houses in London — the Russians own them. And these Russians are the Russian elite who have profited under Putin, Putin’s “team” if you will.
The article also says that the former KGB, the Russian intelligence forces, are stronger and bigger than in Soviet times and have become semi-independent of Putin. They act on their own. The article implies that there might be a “rising star” in the intelligence service who might succeed Putin someday or even overthrow him. And the intelligence service was what carried out the Salisbury attack which I deeply resent since we visited Salisbury in 2012.
This joint exercise at the North Pole is exactly what I mean. Do exercises anywhere. As long as you have a show of force the Russians will get it. The Russian navy in particular is no good.
Russia is a main subject in the upcoming Edward Ware Thrillers at War novel Unlocking Trinity.

Is May Right In Blaming The Russian Government?
It depends what you think of as the “Russian government”. Is the government just Putin? Or does it include the top generals and other influential people like the Mayor of Moscow? This is like asking if the Nazi government was just Hitler or did it include Himmler, too? The historic answer with the Nazis was that the government became increasingly departmentalized as the war went on and in Hitler lost control of many things going on. No one knows exactly how the Russian government works. But it is speculated that Putin is just the “show” figure who seems to be in charge, but there are several men underneath him who have their own interests to pursue. So the “rogue elements” are indeed part of the real government of Russia. So May is right in blaming the “government”.

Brexit Reminiscent of WW2:
Germany and England are always quarreling with each other. The Brexit negotiations are only the latest round. The British should sock it to the Germans.
Maybe the British government reflects the populace — extremely divided. Maybe it wouldn’t be possible to get any kind of unified government right now no matter what party is in control.
Why would May go to Florence to make a speech about Brexit? Why not make it in London at No 10 Downing Street and have it broadcast? US Presidents don’t run off to foreign countries to make speeches about the US. They make speeches about the US relationship with a foreign country when visiting that country such as Trump’s speech in Poland this past summer. Otherwise they make speeches either in the Oval Office or in some special location in the US chosen for that purpose. Before 100 years ago when Wilson attended the Paris Peace Conference it used to be considered improper for US Presidents to leave the country at all during their term of office. Even now US Presidents don’t leave the country for a vacation.
What do you mean that Britain can’t “keep the lights on” or “the food shelves stocked” without remaining in the EU. That is just what the anti-Brexit faction wants you to believe. Somehow Britain managed to keep the lights on and the food shelves stocked during WW2 even when they were fighting the Continent.
This is what May should do: Just say that we are leaving the EU as of March, 2019. Either you accede to our demands that Britain doesn’t have to pay any extra money to the EU and doesn’t have to have the European Court of Human Rights supervising anything or on that day the North Sea Trade with Germany will cease. She should NOT back off from that statement and when the time comes let Merkel do all the fancy dancing around to keep the North Sea Trade with England going. Merkel would come up with something, believe me, even if only to say that it will continue another five years in its present state while “we” continue to work things out. In other words May should not concede anything yet, nothing at all.
