Murder at the Sphinx Gets New Reader Review:

We have a brand new review for Dora Benley’s Murder at the Sphinx on amazon.com by Cheri Clay:

She put her hand to her belly and imagined she felt Edward’s baby move. She waited far too long already. Lawrence maps or no, intrigue or no, she was going to take the plunge.”

Edward and Dora have waited since the great war to be together. Nineteen long years later, and after the death of Dora’s husband, they are now to be married. However, their wedding day was not as planned as “H, the faceless ghoul in blue”, shouts “da gozee” at them from the gallery as It cuts a British uniform to shreds and dropping it to the floor below…

What a spellbinding tale of intrigue, murder, suspense and yes even romance! The story of Edward and Dora’s love affair is powerfully emotional, but add the twist of intrigue and suspense surrounding the Lawrence maps and you have a novel that grabs hold and won’t let go.

There is more to this story, as hiding in the shadows are secrets and lies just waiting to be revealed. What happened to Edward the years he was missing and thought dead? Who is Leopold, the young man who seems to be on a quest to kill Dora, only to save her life time and time again, as Edward grows more impatient with the young boy wanting nothing more than to do away with him?

Heart-stopping suspense that readers will not want to end. Exceptionally written, memorable characters and a story line, not to be forgotten, leaving one powerfully charged novel that readers of suspense will not want to miss.

She is afraid to emerge from her glitzy mansion, wondering if this creep was her mother’s killer, too.

She is surrounded by a houseful of servants, some of whom seem suspicious such as the gardener. He is always watching her. Certainly there is no one she can trust. Enter Bruno, her ex-boyfriend, the sex maniac who is still trying to persuade the recluse Gina to leave her mansion on the rocks by the crashing sea and go swimming or have a party or drive along the coast, or something else equally dangerous. But what is Gina to do? Whom else can she trust besides Bruno? She had better get it figured out quickly, or else Gina, the daughter of the dead and beautiful Hollywood starlet, will soon become very dead herself.

As soon as the King family settles in their new house in Cairo things begin to change rapidly. On Leona’s birthday her stepdaughter gives her an ancient scroll full of hieroglyphics. Her husband tells Leona it is a Book of the Dead, an ancient Egyptian text full of spells and magic chants to help the newly dead person gain admission into the afterlife, the Land of the Setting Sun. The scroll is to help him avoid getting eaten by the Devourer after his heart is weighed on the scales of truth against a feather and found wanting. Leona has no idea where Margaret got such a scroll. She remembers seeing her in the souk, taking something from a woman covered with dark veils from head to foot with only a claw-like hand protruding.

From that moment on Leona’s once perfect world closes in on her. She finds herself kidnapped, locked in a tomb, nearly driven mad, and tormented by an Egyptian spirit who has somehow been loosed on her.
