Two More Thrillers To Come From Cheops Books LLC:
Cheops Books LLC will soon publish two more historical thrillers by Dora Benley, Inn at the Crossroads and Pliny: A Novel.
Lizette receives an urgent missive from her mother and sister. They need rescued. The British under the Duke of Wellington are invading Waterloo in preparation for the Battle.
When Lizette gets to Waterloo, she finds that her mother and sister have fled to Brussels. The crazy Duchess of Richmond has decided to have a grand ball on the eve of the battle, the soldiers be damned. Her mother and sister, seamstresses, are sewing ballgowns for the event.
Gaston, Lizette’s husband’s only son at the Inn at the Crossroads, shows up and threatens his stepmother. He will drag her home if she does not get information for the cause of the Emperor Napoleon. She is to dance with the British officers, including Edward Ware’s great-grandfather, and report to him. But little does Gaston realize the complications that he has created.
Lizette is arrested and thrown in jail as a spy. Will Gaston be able to rescue her? Will he be able to help Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo? Read Inn at the Crossroads, a romantic historical thriller.
Who was Pliny the Elder?
Pliny the Elder, or Gaius Plinius Secundus, was an ancient Roman scientist, essayist, and thinker, probably the greatest mind of the first century AD. He had an office right next door to what later became the Porta Nigra in Trier.
What was he doing there, hundreds of miles away from his home in Rome? Trier was the oldest Roman city in Germany. He had been appointed Governor of the Province of Germany probably by the Emperor Vespasian and his son, the Emperor Titus. No doubt he studied the birds there as well as the flora and fauna since he was the first to write an encyclopedia called the Natural History, which was influential for centuries.
He was carrying on business as usual here early in the summer of 79 AD before packing his bags and returning home for a summer at the seaside south of Rome at one of his villas near the Vesuvius Volcano which unknown to any mortal that summer was about to erupt.
According to legend that is how Pliny died. He was leading an expedition to save those too near the volcano when the volcano sent a rain of ash down upon him. Italian archaeologist now think they may have discovered his remains in a ship in the Bay of Naples near the volcano. See article on the website.
But the novel offers a different explanation for his mysterious disappearance. He was being pursued by German warriors for writing a derisive work about their peoples and culture called the Germania.
But did he escape or not? Pliny: A Novel may present surprising answers. It is the latest book in the Edward Ware Thrillers at War Series.

Parlez-vous Francais? Do You Speak French?
Do you know French? When I was in third grade I had a teacher named Maya Monsieur who taught children to speak simple French after school. I took the course. It was the only French I ever had. I still remember how to count to ten in French. I know a few simple phrases such as “Thank you very much” in French which came in handy two years ago when I found myself in French-speaking Belgium in Wallonia. This was in stark contrast to Germany. I am 100% ethnically German but I can’t speak one word in German. I was mute during my travels there while Gary did all the talking. I can sing a complete song about Napoleon in French to this day, but I don’t know what I am saying. So much for third grade French!
It is interesting to hear that Trump is visiting the Jules Verne Restaurant at the Eiffel Tower. I, too, visited the Eiffel Tower. I am sure you did, too. I didn’t go up in it. But I was there. I even have a photo. More recently Jules Verne has been influential on what I write. I really like Journey to the Center of the Earth for instance. Have we ever discussed Jules Verne before? My current novel Old Faithful Plot is actually influenced by that novel. Do you remember the ending? A Scottish scientist leads a team of scientists and one wife of a scientist under the earth. They discover the Lost Continent of Atlantis. Then at the end they get spewed up into the ocean by a volcano. Well, Old Faithful Plot is all about the Yellowstone supervolcano and what it might do someday. I need not say more.

Yellowstone the SuperVolcano Stars In Old Faithful Plot:
There are only three supervolcanoes in the world, and Yellowstone is one of them. The geysers in the park have been erupting more frequently than usual. There have been earthquake tremors all over Wyoming. They could presage the coming eruption of the supervolcano that has not erupted in seventy thousand years.
If the volcano erupts again it will kill an estimated eighty-seven thousand people. It will quickly make two-thirds of the United States uninhabitable. Clouds of ash will block out the sunlight in much of the country. That will start to affect the flora and fauna beneath the dark pall suddenly cast over it. The eruption will be two thousand times as powerful as the 1980 eruption of nearby Mt. St. Helens which managed to throw ash into five Canadian provinces and eleven states. This sounds like the apocalypse.
Hitler saw all this coming. He decided to send his most trust Nazi agents to Yellowstone National Park to see if they could jigger an eruption of Old Faithful. Edward and Dora must prevent him. All this drama forms the subject of the upcoming Old Faithful Plot soon to be published by Cheops Books LLC.
While they are hiding out from Dora’s husband at the Old Faithful Lodge in 1933, Dora and Edward are also hiding Lawrence maps that Churchill has given them and which Hitler would do anything to get his hands on. Enter Helga and Herr von Wessel, Hitler’s top spies. They warn Colonel Sir Edward Ware and Dora that either they hand over the top secret maps, key to world domination, or they will blow up Yellowstone National Park. They will turn the famous geyser basin into volcanic rubble – and the rest of America, too, which would be buried in volcanic ash just like Pompeii. And if that doesn’t work they have an even darker plot up their sleeves, one that would change history itself.

You may or may not have visited Yellowstone National Park. You may not even know that it is located in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. But that big, original western national park may be in your face one of these days soon. Talk about the Big One in California, the giant earthquake. That would be nothing compared to what Yellowstone may do one of these days.
The first national park is also a dormant, giant, super volcano. Nobody knows what the trigger is to get it to explode big time. We do know that it would not be one of those cone volcanoes so familiar from Hawaii where molten lava streaks down a mountain slope. This would be far uglier and would resemble Mount Vesuvius blowing its lid in 79AD in Roman times during the Emperorship of Titus. Ash would spew out in all directions and cover the landscape for hundreds of miles. Nothing would grow. Cities would get buried. Nobody could live there anymore.
In short, the Yellowstone volcano could bring an end to the civilization of the US just as it cut a swath through ancient Rome. Read more about it in the upcoming alternative history thriller, the Old Faithful Plot, coming soon from Cheops Books. LLC.

Mysterious Old Faithful Inn: Dora and Edward dine at the iconic Old Faithful Inn when hiding out at Yellowstone National Park in 1934. The huge log structure, the biggest in the United States, is dark inside despite all its windows. The dining room resembles the Great Hall of a European castle or palace it is so large, and vast, and it has such a high ceiling. Given to weird decorations in the lobby that look like forked weapons, it easily looks ominous and might be well placed in a fantastical horror story, perhaps with supernatural creatures. Given this sort of atmosphere it is the perfect setting for spies and intrigue. Dora and Edward are trying to hide military maps that hold the key to world domination. Adolf Hitler, the Chancellor and Fuhrer of Germany, has sent key snoops to spook him out and uncover his dark secrets. After weeks of a chase across the country on the Lincoln Highway, the adversaries meet face to face in the dining room of the Old Faithful Inn next to the geyser basin itself.
In a setting like this anything could happen. Hitler has ideas not only to blow up the United States using the supervolcano slumbering only yards away from the Old Faithful dining room, but to potentially change history itself. He wants to go back in time to ancient Rome to meet the one man who could change the course of German history so that Hitler and his fellows would win instead of lose the Great War. With that in mind, Hitler wants to eliminate all competition as he rolls up Europe and perhaps the rest of the world with moves made here in the Old Faithful Inn dining room.

Cheops Books: Thrillers About Volcanoes: Cheops Books LLC has published a young adult thriller novel about volcanoes, Death by Volcano. It is about the Mount St. Helens eruption in Washington state. It is presented from the point of view of a teenage girl who happens to move to the area with her parents and encounters goblins from the past in the shadow of the volcano. The whole area is haunted, and she finds herself getting more than chills and thrills. She almost gets killed, and not by a mere volcano.
This year Cheops Books LLC plans on publishing its second novel about volcanoes, the Old Faithful Plot. Hitler pursues Dora and Edward across the country. He sends his two chief spies, Frau and Herr von Wessel. They are to find the Lawrence maps at any cost and make Dora and Edward give them up — or they threaten to blow up Yellowstone National Park where Dora and Edward are hiding out. Hitler has learned that Yellowstone sits on a supervolcano that could go off at any moment. He figures he knows how to do it, and that would put the US at risk and out of his way.
Volcanoes are a little understood and very threatening natural phenomenon. Dormant volcanoes could start erupting again. Earthquakes could set things in motion. Evil scientific geniuses could exploit volcanoes that already exist. But they do form an exciting background for a thriller.

As we feature Yellowstone settings in various young adult and Edward Ware Thrillers at War novels, we will also feature the Lincoln Highway. What was that? Before the age of the interstates, before 1-90, 1-40, and 1-10, you crossed the country on the Lincoln Highway instead. It extended all the way from New York City to San Francisco, Time Square to the Golden Gate — 3000 miles of America. It opened its first lengths right about the time of the First World War in 1913-1914. Its heyday was in the 1930’s and 1940’s. It began its inevitable long, slow decline starting with the Eisenhower interstate program in the 50’s.
Cheops Books LLC would like to recommend two books on the Lincoln Highway, first Greetings From The Lincoln Highway: A Road Trip Celebration of America’s First Coast-to-Coast Highway and The Lincoln Highway: Coast to Coast from Times Square to the Golden Gate. These two paperbacks were used by our authors during the writing of the Old Faithful Plot, the thriller about Hitler trying to blow up America through the supervolcano buried beneath the ground near Old Faithful geyser. Many of the motels, diners, colorful billboards, giant signs, and restaurants mentioned in the guide are included in the suspense novel. Edward and Dora stop at the same campgrounds with showers and electric lights. They see the same colorful signs. Perhaps they even meet some of the other travelers who kept journals about their travels on the Lincoln Highway and who are quoted in these guides. They certainly paid the same amount for gas when they filled up their tank. They took the advice of carrying a spare gas can and a water canteen as they traveled ever farther west.
After all, Dora and Edward had to get across the country in record time, at least what was considered record time in the 1930’s. Spies sent by Hitler are chasing them all the way to the Old Faithful geyser, threatening them with their lives. Inbetween you cannot help but experience all sorts of Americana.
