In America there has been more trouble with racial minorities such as the African-Americans, the various Hispanic groups from south of the border, and Asians during the period of western settlement and during WW2 when the Japanese in the West were sent to camps based on their racial origins. However even the race riots of the 1960’s didn’t lead to civil war or anything very serious. Apparently one of the real reasons that discrimination against blacks in housing, schools, jobs, etc ended was because merchants really wanted their money and didn’t support the separate but equal doctrine.
I think it was Calvin Coolidge who said the business of America is business. If America has an empire now it’s an economic one. Every country in the world has been forced to embrace capitalism no matter what their government is like.(P.S. Adam Smith came from the British Isles).
