I’ll never forget walking right into the National Archaeological Museum in Athens and immediately running into the bronze face mask of Agamemnon staring back at me looking through three thousands years of time to confront me face to face. It’s the most famous artifact in the museum, the prize of Heinrich Schliemann’s discoveries when he excavated Troy. It brings alive the days of Homer about 1250BC during the Greek Bronze Age and the Mycenaean time period. It led to me writing a novel about Helen of Troy. Very romantic. What was especially valuable was being able to buy Professor Marinatos’s excavation reports on Thera in the gift shop. That’s also about the Bronze Age.
