All those Roman novels full of history and myth inspired me to buy a pomegranate tree. Remember the myth of Persephone and Hades? The girl was kidnapped and taken to the Underworld to marry the King there. But her mother Demeter wanted her back up in her old haunts in the woods and glades. So the newly married girl spent six months in the Underworld and six months on the surface of the earth, thus initiating the seasons. She ate pomegranates before leaving the Underworld. That meant that she was destined to return there.
