We followed our busy day’s itinerary to the Trevi Fountain. Much to our surprise we found a large building with many statues and fountains surrounding it, arranged on varying levels and made of marble of course, none of them in very good condition. But that is very typical of Rome! It has certainly not been kept up. By many this fountain is considered to be the most beautiful and ornate in the world. It was used as the site for filming Three Coins In A Fountain. The legend is that if you throw a coin into the fountain, you will return to Rome. I took a vow to return here when I was looking down into the waters seeing where my coin had landed. At least it was a good way to get rid of the lower denomination euro coins which I could not get converted back into American dollars. Either use it, throw it into the fountain, or you would keep it forever.
