Dora has been engaged to Edward since May of 1915 since the Lusitania sank under German bombardment and she was rescued in Queenstown, Ireland by her future husband. It’s now the autumn of 1934. Dora’s husband in name only, Michael Byrne, has disappeared in the wreck of the Morro Castle. Dora is now free to marry her beloved Edward. She anxiously sails to England. But no sooner do the wedding bells ring in Salisbury Cathedral, than a dark, shadowy creature seems to be after them. It doesn’t matter whether she is hiding away at her new home in the country, Ware Hall, or walking along the streets of London to meet friends for lunch. Footsteps sound as if they are following Dora. Someone is shot at night time in her backyard. She gets threatening notes. Worse, Edward becomes more and more moody. Does he know something she doesn’t? Who is after the newly married couple and why? Is her married happiness to be cut short after waiting all these years for fulfillment?
