We checked in at all sorts of establishments on our 18 day tour of Germany. Luxembourg, and Belgium in June. But there was one thing they all had in common. All had interior corridors and most were two or three stories with no rooms for tourists on the ground floor. Motel Drive In just outside Luxembourg City was the only establishment where all the rooms were on the ground floor and all the rooms opened directly onto the parking lot. You could drive your car right up to your room just like an American motel.
On the downside unlike most European hotels that feature restaurants, this place was supposed to have a restaurant, but it was conveniently closed. In fact our party and one other party were the only occupants of the building on the night of June 19. Even the manager absconded and told us where to drop our keys in the morning. We ended up dining at the grocery store across the street called Match where everyone spoke French only. We had a hard time making ourselves understood and had to settle for petit dejeuner in the morning whether we liked it or not. That consisted of two rolls and tea or coffee.
