This is another example of tourism on the go. We couldn’t find any place to park in Trier. So we couldn’t get out of the car and wander around the Roman baths either. But as we drove by in traffic I took photos. They are impressive no matter how you see them. I imagined I saw men in togas strutting along with indifference to the modern traffic as if they couldn’t see it and weren’t aware of it. With disdain they would jay walk in front of our car, causing my husband to slam on his brakes. They weren’t thinking of us. They were awaiting their baths after a long, sweaty summer day. First they would jump into the calidarium or the hot bath. Then they would use the tepidarium or warm bath to be followed by the frigidarium or cold bath. They could even exercise or play cards. No wonder they were turning their noses up at us tourists stuck in our cars and certainly unable to join them in the baths.
