This cafe with the glass windows in Trier, had one of the most interesting locations I’ve ever seen. It was right in the middle of the action sandwiched between the formal gardens of the city schloss attached to a basilica on one hand and the archaeological museum that features the foot of Constantine on the other. Sitting outside on the patio you could see the fountains, the reflecting pond, and the colorful begonias planted everywhere. Inside you could peek into a hall of the museum that featured busts in marble. And when I say peek, I mean you could walk right in there — a sort of secret back entrance to the museum. The wait staff would wink if you entered there, bypassing the need to go around to the front, climb the formal stairs, and buy a ticket. It reminds me of something a spy would do in a thriller novel. I imagined all the action and chase scenes as I ate and admired the Roman sculptures.
