Russia needs borders. Historically that has been its problem for centuries. That’s why it evolved into a totalitarian state centered in Moscow. It’s always threatened by Mongols and peoples from even farther to the East. Somebody — maybe Germany by dealmaking, maybe the USA — should impose borders that can be maintained. Only then will Russia begin to merge into Western Europe. At least it will have a chance.
