A Touch Of The Bates Motel Just Off the PA Turnpike.
It seemed an innocent enough place when we pulled into Breezewood yesterday and found our way to the Wiltshire Motel. Everything was on one level. They actually gave us a key instead of a key card. The bathroom looked like one in a 50’s home, not a motel, with all the pink and blue tile. The furniture was not what you find in La Quinta. It looked like you might find it in your study or your own bedroom. The two windows even opened and had real pull cords. The price was only $67.00 for three adults.
So why did it remind me of the Bates Motel? For all the supposed friendliness, we never did actually see the proprietors. Oddly enough there was a red phone on the wall outside what was supposed to be the office. You couldn’t go inside. You had to call them. Then keys, towels, etc would magically appear. It seemed such an odd touch for a supposedly friendly, country motel.
Dora and Edward had odd experiences when they were traveling, too, but nothing like this. They were in a different kind of thriller novel. They met Hitler but not Norman Bates.
