What we have here is the beach at Dunkirk in northern France looking toward the English Channel. Here in the spring of 1940 Churchill rescued the British troops and brought them home safely. But Hitler failed to pursue them to Britain and in effect lost the battle that way. This locale is the scene that begins the novel Hitler in New York, the next to the last thriller in the series.
