Several people who have read Captive at the Berghof have commented on the ending. They think that it shouldn’t be so bleak. One lady who was doing a line edit said that she thought this ending wasn’t appropriate for a thriller novel. The first agent who tried to sell the novel but went bankrupt first said that he was going to send the novel to editors on a cold, depressing, rainy February day in New York. Even Kenny when he first heard it said, “You can’t do that!” He was shocked. My mother thinks that Thomasina should get back together with her parents at the end.
