One of the dumbest things that FDR did was to appoint the elder Kennedy Ambassador to the Court of St James. Apparently the President had political obligations to fulfill. Kennedy was a big backer and had lots of money. Kennedy said that Britain couldn’t survive a fight against Nazi Germany. The British tried to go around him with communications and tried to communicate directly with Roosevelt. He was in the way.
