Just last month we started to explore the mysteries of our new backyard. Many of these photos of jumping cholla or barrel cactuses were taken there. There is a mysterious tree that intrigues me. I’ve taken several shots of that. I don’t even know what it’s name is. Another shot shows agave in our side yard. Still another picture shows a wild desert pig, or javelina, crossing the street in broad daylight. It also shows you how barren the ground is. It’s native desert vegetation. You will recognize the saguaro cactus in the front yard in daylight. The small cactus against the wall with red flowers is an old man cactus. The colorful potted plants are ornamental peppers. The mountains in the distance are the Santa Catalinas. And yes, people around here — not us — plant palm trees. It’s California style.
