These photos evoke the mood and atmosphere of the battle that took place here in 9AD between the German tribes and the Roman legionaries. It is dark and spooky with wooden cages in the trees to catch the unwary Romans. The land is very swampy and treacherous. Germanicus showed up five years later to get revenge for the Romans and secure the provinces on the outer reaches of the empire.
