Bear update: The Bear says Now We Have Pirates In Texas Party. TR says, “They are spying on us from every mountaintop.” Moose say, “It’d bee too boring to spy on you, Bear!” Lou says we will have a Pirates Spy On TR Party. We will serve Piratical Foods.
We woke up to sun. Will it last? It lasted, and the temperature in Midland climbed to 103. It feels like Tucson weather.

We woke up at 7:00AM. It didn’t seem quite light out yet. Gary said it was because Van Horn was on the very edge of the Central Time Zone. We took the pets out and went down to the lobby to pick up breakfast. The doors were locked. No one was there! We had to drive to McDonalds on the other side of the highway to pick up Big Breakfasts. We brought it back to the room. We left the motel at 10:01AM. We stopped at the first rest area outside Van Horn, exit 159 at the Plateau Restaurant Truck Stop, exit 181 The Chevron Food Mart, the Stripes at Pecos for lunch, the Monahans McDonalds, the Odessa McDonalds to get lemonade, and finally at the Midland North La Quinta where we checked into room 123 and proceeded to go swimming in the unheated pool. The last time we did something like that was in 1998, the year we last came this way through Texas. We unloaded the car and went to Fazoli’s for dinner down the street. The last time we went to a Fazoli’s Restaurant was in Flagstaff in 1998 on the way to Yellowstone. It was cheaper because there was no meat. On the way back we picked up a double chesseburger at Wendy’s for the dog, got gas, and bought another flat of water for the car.
Oddly enough I saw what looked like an old burned out stone house abandoned by the side of the highway in a flat plain that extended out forever behind it. It was an image like this in the 1990’s that led to my YA horror novel, The Burning, now Death By Nightmare on Kindle.
Gary complained to America’s Best Value Inn online. They never gave us our breakfast! They didn’t have internet either. Nor was their pool open. We didn’t get a proper receipt. They should compensate us.
Still no contract . . .
What next?
