Bear update: The Bear says Alice The Goon Is Harboring Piratesses In Her Swimming Pool Party. TR says, “Me wouldn’t send no messages to you, Bear!” Lou says We Will Have A Pool Party. We will serve Poolside Foods. Sir Kenilworth vanquished the Evil Green Eye. The Amazon says, “You fiend!”
We woke up to sun. Will it last? It lasted, and the temperature in Breezewood climbed to 84.

We woke up at 7:30AM. We got dressed and went to McDonalds for breakfast. I downloaded email. We checked out of room 308 at 9:54AM. We got back on the turnpike, got a ticket, and went back the way we came just yesterday.when we checked out of the Bedford Inn. I took a photo of a barn that said, “Drink milk!” I remember this from previous trips. Our first pit stop was at the Somerset South Plaza. It was redecorated with outdoor patio seating with umbrellas. What was different was that you could see windmills behind the facility. Still no postcards! No one in Pennsylvania believes in them. Pretty soon I’lll have to buy B-Day cards or something like that. We got back on the road and went through the Allegheny Tunnel almost immediately for the second time in two days. We just did it yesterday coming from Bedford. Now we’re going downhill. A sign on the Turnpike says we’ve entered the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. We even passed exit 146 for Bedford where we started our trip yesterday morning. We’re back to where we were late in the afternoon the day before yesterday on Saturday. Lou says he’s hungry for lunch. We stopped at Sbarro’s at Midway for lunch. We had spaghetti and pizza. We found out about the Lincoln Highway from a plaque outside. I’m going to incorporate it in the WW 1 novel. They finally had postcards! We got off the road in Breezewood and checked into room 129 at the Best Western Plaza Inn. We went to Hardees for dinner and had ham sandwiches just like back in Charlottesville. Then we went to McDonalds and had dessert. We then took a walk and discovered Sheetz for a continental breakfast tomorrow.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike may be an historic road. At the Midway South Plaza we saw a placard about the Lincoln Highway, started in 1913, running from New York to San Francisco and passing this way through Pennsylvania. But it’s an idea that’s past its time. Toll roads were good at one time. But now they’re outdated. Who wants to have access controlled by toll booths? Who wants not to be able to get off the road when they want and not feel hindered by a toll booth to get off and another to get back on? Somehow it seems corrupt and full of vested interests, not something for the motorist.
Sbarro’s at the Midway South Travel Plaza wasn’t a good deal. We paid $41.03 for lunch. What did we get for it? Two small bowls of spaghetti with sauce and absolutely no meat. There was hardly any sauce and no parmesan. It was very dry. My son had two slices of pizza. With that we had drinks and small side salads. I would have thought it would cost $25.00. The rest of the money must be for the Turnpike Commission or somebody in the state government. We would have been better off getting off the road at Bedford and eating lunch at McDonalds.
Dog/Cat Report
For the very first day of this trip the pets aren’t traveling with us. They are back at the Parkview Kennel in Pittsburgh. It’s an odd feeling. You keep on thinking that you’re supposed to be walking the dog or filling his water dish. We called the kennel. Putlitz is in Christine’s room.

Gertrude wrote an email: “Alt Salzburg” (Buergerspitalgasse 2, 5020 Salzburg). That’s the name of the restaurant in Salzburg.
Still no contract . . .
What next?
