Why Wasn’t The Hafen City Cruise Terminal In Hamburg Air-Conditioned? 9/28/12
It was a 96 degree, sweltering afternoon when we boarded the QM2 in Brooklyn to head for Southampton and Hamburg on July 6. It was 86 on July 25 when we boarded the QM2 in Hamburg to return to the States. In New York the terminal building was air-conditioned. The plastic-sided ramp that let up to the ship wasn’t. But in Hamburg the terminal building lacked all air-conditioning. We milled about waiting to board for quite awhile. It was especially bad when we began to snake towards the table where the Cunard workers sat. Everybody was shoulder to shoulder, and there was no relief from the heat. At least the boarding ramp in Hamburg is outside. But with conditions like this it’s amazing that anyone sails.
