Self-Disembarkation On The QM2 July 6 Voyage To Hamburg Made Us Shed Bags
We had to pick up a car rental in Hamburg at 9:00AM on July 15. Deck 4 wasn’t supposed to disembark until 10:00AM according to the schedule that was delivered to our stateroom. There was a special service to bus you to the airport if you had a flight. But there weren’t any buses to deliver you to a car rental desk. So the only option left was early self-disembarkation which commenced at 6:45AM.
Sounds ideal? Think again! There were no porters available to carry our suitcases, and we had four big ones that included books and were heavy. It was difficult enough to carry out camera bags, our pharmaceuticals bag, our laptop bags, our souvenir bags, our cooler, our suit bag, my handbag, etc. We hadn’t come by airplane. So we had much more to carry than ordinary ship passengers. We ended up leaving items such as our fan in the stateroom. We even emptied our our cooler and the contents of our pharmaceuticals bag and collapsed them. We ended up resting one bag on top of the other to roll them down the ramp.
It would have been much more convenient if Cunard could have provided baggage handlers for early disembarkation.
