CLOSE: IT LOOKS LIKE THE TOWER OF LONDON: 12/25/12:
There we stood huddled together in the Close on a chilly, rainy day last July 13, when we looked up through a latticed window and saw what looked like the Tower of London. True the window was over an archway called the North Gate. But I imagined I saw severed heads hanging there, put there by the executioner’s hand. I couldn’t shake the feeling for this entire complex of ancient residences around Salisbury Cathedral transported us back to medieval times.
