Nice and Cozy Hotel Lenz in Fulda, Germany on Trip Advisor
Our 10-day driving tour of Germany was turning into a lodging nightmare last summer. We would arrive in a new town every day and decide we didn’t like the place where we had reservations and look for some place else. In Fulda we were arriving particularly late at 8:00PM local time after driving on the autobahn all day from Munich. We started to unload our bags into the lobby of the Holiday Inn at Fulda where we had made reservations on the phone the night before. We got one look at the stairs leading up to our room there and said no way! They looked dangerous and cancelled our reservation. At 8:30 we chanced upon the Hotel Lenz. We couldn’t believe our luck! The stairs looked like those in a normal American house of a certain vintage, say about 1920. They were even carpeted. The lady at the front desk reminded me of my grandmother she was so helpful. The beds were like those in somebody’s home, not a motel. They’d even left a shelf of books upstairs in the carpeted hallway. I was so happy about the arrangement that I left a few of my young adult novels that had been published in German there. In the backyard there was play equipment for children and a topiary bush in the shape of a dog.
Tip: The second floor is nice. You get access to a shelf of free books, that is if you can read German.
