On our trip to Santa Fe this summer we stopped in Benson first of all to see the Kartchner Caverns Museum. We’d never stayed at the Comfort Inn before and were eager to see what it was like as we took notes for a thriller novel about the Manhattan Project and the Southwest where spies might be crawling out of any cave or cavern. We discovered that the Comfort Inn Benson is a great hotel, especially for a small town like Benson, Arizona, until you try to take a shower. The tub is too high to climb in easily. It reminds me of a European tub from my trip to Europe two years ago. Needless to say there was no grab bar either. You could kill yourself trying to climb in or out. Also the bathroom sink was much too high. Even worse the sink bowl was pushed way back on the counter instead of forward as is more typical. I could hardly wash my face or even my hands. I’m five foot five, not giant but not a midget either..
Nor was there anything exceptional about the breakfast buffet in the morning in the lobby. There was a nice touch with American flags at every table in honor of the Fourth of July the next day, but the muffins were standard fare. The orange juice was watered down, and you had to look hard for a Lipton tea bag.
At least it was pet friendly! Our dog liked it.
