Colloquial slang changes every year or so I think. YA novels featured that sort of thing to some extent. I don’t watch TV. But when I was doing YA novels I found that the current slang imitated certain TV shows. I would pepper my dialogue with a few expressions here and there to give it flavor. I also kept some fashion magazines to make sure I did fashion updates to make sure the girls were wearing the right things. Vogue was good for this purpose. Generally I don’t write contemporary adult novels. When I write about adults it always becomes historical. That’s why the Edward Ware Thriller Series ends in 1945.
