None of us can equal Miss Dora Benley’s worst travel nightmare —- thank goodness! Or we probably wouldn’t be here to write about it. The heroine of Key to Lawrence Special Edition boarded the Lusitania in Manhattan at the Cunard Pier on May 1,1915, exactly one hundred years ago. On May 7 about 2:00PM right after lunch the ocean liner was torpedoed by a German U-boat. 18 minutes later it was gone, leaving many passengers stranded in the Irish Sea. Of the 1962 passengers and crew,, only 771 survived. Dora was one of them.
