A cathedral has stood here since the year 800 in the Dark Ages. The current cathedral is the third one on this site constructed in the 1200’s not long after the Third Crusade. We were driving through Munster on our way to the Rhine in June and stopped by briefly to admire a building so very old. We couldn’t find decent parking and were illegally parked. We leaped out of our vehicle to snap some photos and never did get inside. A building that’s been there that long has a right to be there. You could feel a stubborn rigidlity to it as if it were standing as tall as it could and boasting to you. It seemed to be whispering to me, “Come and learn my secret.” It was extensively damaged by World War 2 air raids and had to be repaired after the war. Wars come and go. Governments come and go. But sacred buildings have a life of their own and just continue as long as human history does.
