We spent all day on July 10 sailing around the harbor at Halifax while the Queen Mary 2 was in port. You can see a lot more from the water than you can on land. For one thing, you can’t visit Georges Island National Historic Site any other way than by sea. The small drumlin located in the middle of Halifax Harbor features a lighthouse with a lighthouse keeper’s cottage. It was closed down and abandoned several decades ago, lending a mysterious atmosphere to the island, especially at night when the lights go on. We were fortunate enough to stick around out in the harbor after dark to witness the fireworks display put on for the Queen Mary 2’s 175 anniversary celebration. Unforgettable.
