We took a day excursion from the Upper Rhine around Remagen to visit Marksburg Castle. Right after we left Koblenz and before we got to Marksburg we saw a ruined, Gothic castle up on the hill. We learned that it was Lahneck Castle. I could imagine Sleeping Beauty asleep in the tower. I could also picture Prince Charming with a sword in hand climbing up the mountainside, hacking away at all that greenery. We didn’t get very close but it will always remain a romantic vision on the Rhine Road.
