101 years ago today on May 7, 1915 the Lusitania sank, hit by a German torpedo. The torpedo struck shortly after lunch around 2PM in the afternoon on a sunny day about 6 miles off the coast of Ireland. The ship was headed for port in Liverpool. Last summer Cheops Books visited both Liverpool and the site of the sinking and published a commemorative edition of Key to Lawrence Special Edition. American Dora Benley survives the sinking by rowing ashore to Queenstown. She forms a resolve to get back at the Germans who sank the ship. That vow lasts her through two world wars and many novels in the series Edward Ware Thrillers at War. Below you will find a photo of the port of Liverpool where the Lusitania never arrived and a photo of the coast of Ireland which the ship never reached.
