Different Attitude Towards War In 19th Century:
I just bought a book called Beauty and Chivalry: The Duchess of Richmond’s Ball Brussels 1815 by Lisa Eveleigh. I’m working on a novel about the Battle of Waterloo this fall. I just finished visiting the Battlefield of Waterloo this past June for the 200th anniversary. A pivotal scene takes place at the ball in Brussels on the night of June 15. The Battle of Waterloo took place on June 18. What really strikes me is the totally different attitude about war. I’m used to the more modern attitude surrounding WW1 and WW2. This is the romantic era for sure.
