We Played Hide And Seek With The Manager All Afternoon:
We like the disappearing breed of exterior corridor motels where you can drive up to the door of the room. So we remembered the HOJO’s in New Stanton with fondness from three years ago. What we didn’t realize was that it had turned into a Garden Inn where we ended up playing hide and seek with the manager for half the afternoon. He propped open the door to our room and went searching for keys. We called him at the front desk. The room phone wouldn’t work. My husband went looking for him. I tried yodeling. An hour later we still didn’t have keys. Finally there was a knock at the door. The search for keys had ended. But not so the other adventures the room presented. I tried to adjust the ancient box A/C on the wall. It had one temperature no matter how you turned the dial. When I peeked in the bathroom, I saw a switch for an electric baseboard heating unit. I didn’t believe my eyes. Was such a thing legal? The room stay was only $79.53. But I wonder if it was even worth that much.
