The German torpedo struck the Lusitania about 2:00PM on the afternoon of Friday, May 7, 1915. Lunch had just been served. Some were still enjoying ice cream in the Verandah Cafe enjoying the sunny weather as they approached Liverpool where they were to dock the next morning early. Suddenly they felt a jolt. Ladies leaped up and screamed. Everything was in chaos as passengers ran back to their rooms to fetch their lifejackets. They tried to pile into the lifeboats. But the ship listed sharply to starboard. Passengers leaped overboard. The ship disappeared under the waves in only 18 minutes.
