The humble little French Pastry Shop Restaurant tucked away in a dark corner of the La Fonda lobby with a separate entrance onto E. San Francisco is quietly enough probably the best eatery in New Mexico. The atmosphere evokes colonial times with a brick fireplace complete with copper ware on the mantel and wooden vigas interspersed with chandeliers overhead. The quiche is the best I ever tasted. The animal bread looks like artwork and is amusingly original. The chocolate mousse was the best desert of the trip to Santa Fe researching WW2 spies. Wrapped in crusty chocolate, the chocolate center by contrast is light and whipped cream-like. Both times we ate there in July it was mobbed while La Plazuela across the lobby was deserted.
