I’ve stayed at this motel many times. I thought it was dependable, but that was until I stayed there on July 4, 2014. As soon as it got dark we felt as if we were being bombarded by fireworks. They exploded in the parking lot behind the motel. The motel knew about it in advance and claimed that’s why they were assigning us to a room on the opposite side of the building. But it didn’t protect us. We were out after dark, and our car got hit by an exploding firework. For a long while we just sat dumbfounded in our car parked in front of our room afraid to get out for fear we might also get hit by the firecrackers exploding around us lighting up the night sky. Down the street a store was advertising ARTILLERY SHELLS in big letters. I imagine we were seeing them. The man who checked us in said that’s why the guest laundry was closed down right now. Somebody robbed the machines of quarters to buy fireworks. The Econo Lodge Lordsburg might be a dull place most of the year, but don’t stay here on July 4.
