Why Do The Europeans Have Such Big, Heavy Windows? 9/26/12
Everywhere we stayed in Germany without exception we noticed the same thing — the windows were big and heavy. In every hotel room they opened, sometimes as a substitute for A/C. But when you were opening them you appreciated their bulk. Some were so heavy you wondered what would happen if they fell on you.
How did this state of affairs start? For one thing in the USA almost no motel or hotel room windows open. And then they are much lighter and not so imposing.
