We Never Checked In Until 8:00 or 8:30PM At Night 10/10/12
We never checked into our hotels until 8:00 or 8:30PM during most of our driving tour of Germany this past summer. We checked out right after breakfast. On the going part of the trip we always drove between 120 and 175 miles per day. But because of the traffic on the autobahns we never got to where we were going in time to see much of anything. The only cities we got to tour were the ones where we spent more than one day such as Weimar, Nuremberg, and Salzburg. All we saw of Potsdam was the outside of the Ceclienhof and the lake where we ate dinner. Nor did we see anything of downtown Munich except what we could see from the Mandarin Oriental with the single exception of the Hofbrauhaus where we ate dinner. In Hamburg the only reason we saw the main attraction in town, Hafen City, the harbor, was because we were both disembarking and embarking on the QM2.
