I Didn’t See Any Penny Throws At German Cash Registers 11/9/12
When I walk into a retail store in the USA I frequently see penny throws. You contribute extra pennies or take them as you need them. These are particularly common in restaurants, but I’ve seen them in pet stores, office stores, etc.
They didn’t exist in Germany. The Germans are too frugal to appreciate such a convenience. Also their euro currency is more dependent on coins even for larger amounts of money. Coins are just more popular as much as Americans think of them as an annoyance and will do anything to lighten the load in their wallets.
