Why Don’t They Have Screens in Germany Or Austria? 11/17/12:
There were no screens on the balcony window on the Queen Mary 2. This was true in every room on land in Germany or Austria, too. From the first night at the Best Western Grand City Park Hotel in Potsdam to the Dorint in Weimar to the Hilton in Nuremberg to the Best Western Imlauer in New Town Salzburg to the Mandarin Oriental in Munich to Hotel Lenz in the exact center of Germany, Fulda, to the Best Western St. Raphael near the docks in Hamburg, everybody had big windows that swung open. But nobody had screens.
Maybe there aren’t as many insects flying around in Europe as there are in America. It’s too far north for that. But there are birds and some insects. Doesn’t anybody want to prevent them from getting in your room? And what about the safety factor, especially if you have kids in your room not to mention your cat.
