Not A Map To Take With You In The Car
I bought this Michelin map of Germany only a couple weeks before we left for our big trip to Europe last summer. We were renting a Ford Mondeo in Hamburg and driving it around Germany and Austria for 10 days. I took it out of my handbag as soon as we hit the autobahn from Hamburg to Potsdam on July 15, the first day of the trip. But it was so big and bulky that it was hard to unfold in the front seat without running into the driver’s arm. Then, when I did manage to find the right section of the road, it was difficult to fold the map back. And when folded back, it wouldn’t stay folded back unlike a AAA American road map. I was surprised to learn that the rest areas along the autobahn weren’t marked either. In short, it wasn’t very practical. It reminded me more of the type of map that you would lay out flat on a table to admire. It’s in color and has all the different regions of Germany for academic study. It’s for show and not for blow.
