It Goes On And On About The Sound Of Music: Frommer’s Austria
Most Americans think of Austria as Salzburg and the Sound of Music and nothing else. This guidebook confirms that impression. It goes on and on about Sound of Music tours, etc. We went to Salzburg last summer but not to see the Sound of Music locales. Instead we stayed overnight there because it was the closest city to Berchtesgaden other than Berchtesgaden itself. We were on a Third Reich tour of Germany and Austria and wanted to stay in a modern hotel instead of old-fashioned inns clinging to the mountainside the way you find in Berchtesgaden near the train station. No thanks to this guide we located the Best Western Imlauer Hotel in Salzburg near the Marionettentheater.
Note: Remember that Austria is much more than the Sound of Music, which isn’t even historically accurate!
