The Hampton Inn at Van Horn is a new property that makes one wonder what it’s doing in such an out of the way place. We speculated that it had somethng to do with Amazon and Jeff Bezos who owns a space company in the area. The room we were assigned seemed designed for one person with a double bed and a shower — perhaps a businessman? We had to add a cot for a third adult, but they seem to have lots of one person rooms on the ground floor. The breakfast room was much larger than almost any other on the trip with maybe the single exception of the Courtyard by Marriott in Somerset, New Jersey that cost much more money. They served not only scrambled eggs and bacon but also cold and hot cereal, rolls of several kinds, and an assortment of fruit juices, and coffees and teas. Perhaps the idea is a little too ambitious for the location. They already have posted signs that the dryer is out of order as well as one of the elevators. The key cards don’t seem to work right in the outside entrances.
